Why are my trucks impossible to tighten?

I've been skating for many years now and I really have come to like tight trucks. The problem is every time i get new trucks i skate them and tighten them all the time and then one day the top cup bends until i can't reach the nut to tighten or loosen it. How can i prevent this and why does it keep happening?
